Our NHS is a treasure.
Healthcare is a universal right for everyone in the UK. The most vulnerable people should be at the heart of the NHS. Without this universal right, inequality in accessing healthcare would deepen, and a more unfair UK would result.
My Immediate Priorities:
- Protect the NHS from privatisation
- Ensure NHS staff are listened to, protected and receive a fair wage
- Eliminate costs for essential GP visits and life-saving treatments
Prevent Privatisation: Ensure the NHS remains a public service by adequately funding core services and addressing patient demands without cost to the patient. Use money earmarked for the private sector to level up the NHS and end systematic underinvestment.
Prioritise Workforce & Increase Pay: Support staff by preventing burnout, addressing toxic workplace issues, and adjusting workloads based on reasonable needs rather than financial pressures. Raise NHS staff wages, listening to recommendations from medical organisations and unions.
Avoid Top-Down NHS Reform: Instead of reforming for the sake of reform, prioritise patients and medical professionals in decision-making. Listen to NHS leaders and provide them with the tools to safeguard the NHS, rather than assuming the government knows best.
